Hamdi Alkan to cast earthquake survivor children in new film

It has been learned that the director, who will tell a school story, will cast children from his hometown in the project.

Alkan said, "I want to provide a bit of morale to the people of my hometown after the great disaster."

WHO IS HAMDI ALKAN?

Hamdi Alkan was born in 1967 in the village of Döver in Antakya. He is the child of an Arab-origin family. He is the youngest of six siblings, one girl and five boys. His father, Ali Alkan, was a courthouse bailiff, and his mother, Helva Alkan, was a housewife.

He attended primary, middle, and high school in Antakya. His love for books began during his student years. He was interested in swimming and basketball. He had wanted to be an actor since primary school and took part in school plays. He completed his higher education in the Electrical Engineering department at Yıldız Technical University in 12 years.

During his university years, he made a living by selling books at the Sahaflar Bazaar in Beyazıt Square. He persistently tried to enter the conservatory to receive acting training but was unable to get in. In 1989, at the age of 22, he married Canan Hoşgör. The couple, who have two daughters named Zeynep (born 1998) and Ayşe (born 2007), divorced in 1999; they remarried in 2006 and divorced again in March 2012.

After completing his education, Alkan started working at TRT as the host of the program "3 Aşağı 5 Yukarı." He worked with Gafur Hüner and Yalçın Menteş and created a sports sketch program called "Öz Ofsayt."

He then became the director, producer, and actor of the programs "Reyting Reyting" and "Reyting Hamdi." He became known for the "Reyting Hamdi" program. For ten years, he produced the comedy program "Hamdi Alkan TV," and his "Gazman" character became very popular. Gazman, a superhero character similar to Superman, had the ability to fly by passing gas.

Between 2004 and 2007, he played the character Cino in the fantastic children's series "En İyi Arkadaşım" and also directed and produced the series. He directed a television series called "Yumurcak TV," in which only children acted. He worked as a director in theater troupes. He served as a theater instructor and general art director at the Yıldız Technical University Theater Club (Yıldız Technical University Players).

In 2001, he was a guest actor in the film "Şellale." In 2004, he created the project for the competition "Türkiye'nin Yıldızları," which aired on Show TV. Through this project, Beren Saat and Engin Akyürek became known in Turkey. In 2007, he directed the series "Arka Sıradakiler," which began airing on FOX and lasted for 193 episodes.

He directed the feature film "Bayrampaşa: Ben Fazla Kalmayacağım" (2007), starring Vural Çelik, Yasemin Çonka, Hakan Yılmaz, Tamer Karadağlı, and actual inmates; the film "Dersimiz Atatürk" (2009), written by Turgut Özakman and starring Halit Ergenç, Çetin Tekindor, Batuhan Karacakaya, Canan Hoşgör, and Tolga Savacı; and the film "Selam: Bahara Yolculuk" (2015), which was filmed in Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

On April 24, 2014, he married Selen Görgüzel in Rome. He directed the romance and drama series "O Hayat Benim," which aired between 2014 and 2017. The artist, who reached 145 kilograms and experienced health problems due to his weight in 2016, lost weight through gastric sleeve surgery and regained his health.

In 2019, he directed the comedy film "Kırk Yalan." In addition to a large book collection, he has collections of posters, tin toys, old razor blades, matches, binoculars, paintings, prayer beads, pens, pocket knives, and business cards.

Alkan donated his postcard, painting, letter, and telegram collections to the War of Independence Museum opened in Hatay.
