He explained to Fatih Altaylı: Is Ferzan Özpetek Turkish or Italian?
Journalist Fatih Altaylı hosted Turkish director Ferzan Özpetek, who lives in Italy. Özpetek answered the frequently debated question: Is Ferzan Özpetek Turkish or Italian?
Journalist Fatih Altaylı hosted Turkish director Ferzan Özpetek, who lives in Italy, on his YouTube channel.
Altaylı asked Özpetek, "For us, you are a Turkish director; for the Italians, you are an Italian director. What are you to yourself?"
"THEY CALL IT THE 'FERZAN ÖZPETEK TOUCH'"
Özpetek said the following:
"I am a director. I prefer being called a director. Because it is more universal. I was in Turkey until I was 17. Being in Turkey until the age of 17 is very important; your roots are here. Those branches grow later.
There (in Italy), they say 'the Ferzan Özpetek touch.' I don't know the reason for that; it might be because of my Turkishness, or it might be because of me. When they see a film, when they see an actor giving a good performance, they say 'that's his touch,' which is a very beautiful thing.
The combination of the two cultures has definitely been beneficial for me."
