As the month of Ramadan approaches, the fitra amount has been on the agenda. The Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) has announced the fitra amount determined for 2025. The fitra amount, which is determined based on the minimum daily food requirement of a person, changes every year. This year's amount was also determined with the intention of supporting those in need.
HOW MUCH IS THE 2025 DIYANET FITRA AMOUNT?
The fitra amount that will be valid from the 2025 Ramadan to the 2026 Ramadan has been set at 180 TL. This amount can be given in cash or in kind through food items.
The determined amount also represents the daily fasting ransom (fidya) cost. Furthermore, every taxpayer can give an amount equivalent to their own daily food expenses as fitra.
WHEN SHOULD FITRA BE GIVEN?
Although the time for fitra (charity of breaking the fast) to become obligatory is the first day of Eid al-Fitr, it can also be given before the holiday, and this is considered more virtuous. It can also be given on the day of the holiday or afterwards, but it is considered recommended (mustahab) to give it before the Eid prayer. In the Shafi'i school of thought, delaying the fitra until the evening of the first day of the holiday is forbidden (haram) unless there is a legitimate excuse. Additionally, it is permissible to give fitra during the first days of Ramadan (Nawawi, al-Majmu', VI, 128).
