Humanitarian tragedy in the Aegean: 50-day-old baby left among rocks for 3 days

Thirty-six migrants, abandoned to their fate by human traffickers on the steep cliffs of the island of Tilos in the Aegean Sea, were unable to escape from the area, which is inaccessible by land.

The migrants, who included pregnant women, endured a nightmare, remaining without food or water for three days. It was reported that there are missing migrants.

MAYOR SHARED THE NEWS

According to a report by Yaşar Anter from Sözcü, following a tip-off from fishermen, the female Mayor of Tilos, Maria Kamma, mobilized search and rescue teams, the coast guard, Frontex units, and the island's residents to provide assistance. Kamma shared the tragedy on her social media account along with photos of the incident.

It was revealed that human traffickers had beaten the migrants and left them on the cliffs of Tilos.

It was learned that among the group of migrants, which included 9 women, 9 children, and 18 men, mothers had been preparing formula for their babies using seawater. An operation was carried out in the area, where access by land was impossible for the migrants.

50-DAY-OLD BABY FOUND AMONG ROCKS AFTER THREE DAYS

During the operation to rescue the migrants from the rocky area, search and rescue teams found the 50-day-old baby safe and sound among the rocks about 100 meters away.

It was stated that the baby, who was taken into protective custody after the child's family did not come forward, was named "Ioannis" by the mayor.

In her statement, Mayor Maria Kamma said, "The pregnant woman stranded on the mountain, the babies and children thrown into the steep parts of the island, the injured women, and the men who were brutally beaten by traffickers lived through a nightmare. The 50-day-old baby was found by chance among the rocks after three days."

The rescued migrants were taken under treatment at the Tilos Island Hospital. It was stated that search and rescue operations for missing migrants are continuing in the area.
