“I was at the Suna’nın Kızları office petting our dog, Kahve. The phone rang: ‘Ms. İpek, your father wants to see you’… I had been living with the dream of that sentence for years. With the dream of my father… I don’t remember how I went to the hospital after the medical and legal permissions were obtained. I knocked on his door; his doctors were with him. We locked eyes.

I ran to his side. In that first moment we embraced, neither of us could hold back our tears… I was able to say, sobbing, ‘I love you so much, I missed you so much!’ He was reproachful. ‘Why were we apart for so long, why did it take so long?’ he asked. I could only say, ‘They came between us’…

Since that day, we have been talking about how much we love each other and how much we enjoy being together.

Yes, I have reunited with my father. Yes, they had truly come between us, and yes, he really had a very serious illness. I wish we could have intervened earlier and started his treatment. But what matters is that I have reunited with my father…

Yes, there are ongoing lawsuits and the situation is very complicated. But I am very lucky that I can hear my father call me ‘my only child’ again and that I can spend time with him.

There is only one thing I am sure of: No matter what life brings our way, I will always continue to love and protect my father.”
