Insult conviction for İlyas Yalçıntaş: Sentenced to a judicial fine!

The trial in which singer İlyas Yalçıntaş was accused of sending insulting messages to Iranian national Mahsa H. via a messaging application in Istanbul in January 2024 has concluded. Lawyers for both parties attended the hearing at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance.

Complainant lawyer Ali Kemal Atçeken stated in his final statement, "As a well-known person, the defendant İlyas Yalçıntaş should set an example for society. This is not just a case of insult; it also highlights the social dimension of violence against women. We demand that he be punished."

Defendant Yalçıntaş's lawyer, Talha Duman, said, "We have filed the necessary criminal complaints regarding the events in which my client was the actual victim. My client was under serious provocation and, as a result of emotional distress, could find no other solution and sent these messages. We request his acquittal."

The court sentenced defendant İlyas Yalçıntaş to a judicial fine of 3,750 Turkish Lira for the crime of 'insult via audio, written, or visual communication' and decided to defer the announcement of the verdict.
