A lawsuit has been filed against Match Group, the owner of Tinder and other dating apps, over allegations that former users have developed addictions.
Six plaintiffs from four different U.S. states state that they are former users of Match Group's dating apps. According to the plaintiffs' claims, the matching algorithms used by the company are designed not to match users with potential dates, but rather to ensure they spend more time on the app and to lure them into subscription plans.
According to the report submitted by the plaintiffs to the Federal Court in San Francisco, it is alleged that these algorithms function as a system that psychologically rewards users through gamification, an effect that can also be seen in gambling addiction.
The plaintiffs claim that despite Match Group's slogan "designed to be deleted," the apps have a structure aimed at keeping users on the platform.
The Match company, however, rejects these allegations and emphasizes that their business model is to match users more efficiently. Furthermore, they state that they find the lawsuit meritless. While the company expresses that their goal is to successfully match more people with one another, they deny the allegations.
