Referendum in Rize! It was held 30 years ago as well
Villagers in Rize, who have been waiting for natural gas for years, are heading to a referendum. Gölgeli village headman Muzaffer Karaca said, "A referendum was held 30 years ago as well, but it was not accepted at that time."
Gölgeli village, located between 3 neighborhoods in the center of Rize, went to a referendum about 30 years ago to become a neighborhood but failed to do so.
Now, the villagers are hoping to gain access to natural gas by turning their village into a neighborhood, as the 3 nearby neighborhoods already use natural gas while they do not. The villagers will head to a referendum on November 19.
WE ARE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE
Stating that citizens will receive services once they become a neighborhood, Gölgeli village headman Muzaffer Karaca said, "Currently, the area behind our village is a neighborhood, 2 kilometers ahead is a neighborhood, and the area near the village is considered a neighborhood. We are stuck in the middle. We are going to a referendum to make this place a neighborhood. This is also the wish of the citizens. We receive help from village services, but the citizens care more about becoming a neighborhood to get natural gas. A referendum was held 30 years ago as well, but it was not accepted at that time. We are surrounded by neighborhoods on 3 sides and we are stuck in the middle," he said.
