It was in a state of neglect: Deyr Mor Yakup Monastery to be restored

The historic Deyr Mor Yakup Monastery (Deyr Mir Yakup Monastery), located in Siirt and having suffered significant damage due to neglect for many years, is set to be restored.

The Chaldean Foundation will submit the project it has prepared for the restoration of the historic monastery to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the coming days.

Emin Evin, the owner of the land on which the monastery stands, shared what he heard about the monastery from his grandmother Nesro Evin, whom he lost in 1978 when she was 110 years old.

'40 CHURCHES WERE AFFILIATED WITH THIS PLACE'

Evin explained that his grandmother and Addey Şêr, the last Archbishop of the monastery, knew each other well, and that his grandmother often spoke of the aid provided by Şêr. Pointing to his grandmother's accounts, Evin said, "Approximately 40 churches were affiliated with this place. Since my grandmother's land was also close to here, their communication was very strong."
