Journalist and cartoonist Ali Galip Altunçul has passed away
Journalist and cartoonist Ali Galip Altunçul, a member of the Journalists Association of Turkey, has passed away at the age of 78.
Ali Galip Altunçul's funeral will be held today during the afternoon prayer at the Alem Mosque on Ercan Street in Eskişehir, and he will be laid to rest at the Asri Cemetery.
The Board of Directors of the Journalists Association of Turkey (TGC) issued a message of condolence following Altunçul's passing, stating: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our member Ali Galip Altunçul, who served the journalism profession successfully for many years as a cartoonist. We extend our condolences to our colleague's family and our press community."
WHO IS ALI GALIP ALTUNÇUL?
Ali Galip Altunçul was born in Istanbul in 1946. Due to his father being a civil servant, he continued his education in various cities across Anatolia.
His cartoons were published in magazines including "Çocuk Haftası", "Emekçi", "Kirpi", "Yelpaze", "Pardon", "Papağan", and "Akbaba". Altunçul, who worked as a cartoonist at the newspaper Tercüman for 30 years, also worked at the newspaper Günaydın for approximately 5 years, and later at Yenişafak.
Continuing his profession as a cartoonist at the Eskişehir Sakarya newspaper, Ali Galip Altunçul received 11 awards, primarily from competitions in France, Italy, and Bulgaria.
Furthermore, the work for which Altunçul received an award at the Canada World Cartoon Competition is currently on display at the World Cartoon Museum.
Altunçul, who was also deemed worthy of awards in the cartoon category at the Journalists Association of Turkey Achievement Awards in 1996, 2000, and 2014, is the author of the cartoon books "Karikatür Albümü" and "Dünden Bugüne".
