Korean woman Kim Eunja, whose story was adapted for the big screen in the film 'Ayla', has passed away.

According to a written statement from Turkey's Embassy in Seoul, Kim, who lived with her children and grandchildren in the city of Incheon near Seoul, developed pneumonia after contracting COVID-19 in 2022.

Kim, who was also under the protection of the Korean Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, had been receiving treatment for some time at the Elderly Care Unit of Songdo Hana Hospital near Incheon.

Kim, who had recently developed dementia, contracted pneumonia again and passed away yesterday.

Kim, who maintained her love for Turkey until her final moments, was frequently visited by Turkey's Embassy in Seoul.

Following the news of her death, Turkey's Ambassador to Seoul, Murat Tamer, visited the funeral home to convey his condolences to Kim's family.

The film 'Ayla', which was adapted from a true story, told the tale of Petty Officer Süleyman Dilbirliği, who took care of a five-year-old girl he found orphaned during the Korean War, and the girl, who was named Ayla.
