Late Roman period Virgin Mary mosaic seized
A mosaic panel, believed to date back to the late Roman period, has been seized in the Akhisar district of Manisa.
Regarding the Virgin Mary Figure, which is thought to date back to the first century AD, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced the following on his social media account:
“In an operation carried out in Akhisar, Manisa, a mosaic panel, assessed to belong to the Late Roman Period, was seized and delivered to the Manisa Museum.
Another one of our treasures has returned home! I would like to thank the @jandarma for their efforts in this successful operation.”
