Mango founder Isak Andic Ermay dies in mountain hiking accident

Isak Andic Ermay, the 71-year-old Turkish-Spanish dual citizen and founder of the major Spanish textile company Mango, has lost his life in an accident during a mountain hike.

It has been reported that Isak Andic, who was born in Istanbul and migrated to Spain at the age of 14, having lived in Barcelona for many years, died after falling approximately 100 meters during a hike in the Montserrat mountain range in the Catalonia region.

Catalan regional government president Salvador Illa Roca stated in a post on his official X account, "We are devastated by the loss of Isak Andic, a determined businessman whose leadership contributed to the growth and global recognition of Catalonia. He left an indelible mark on the Catalan and global fashion industry. On behalf of my government, I extend my condolences to his family, friends, and the Mango team."

Born in Istanbul in 1953 to a Sephardic Jewish family, Isak Andic made significant strides after entering the textile industry in 1979 and founded the company Mango in 1984.

In the 2024 list published by Forbes magazine, Andic was ranked as the 5th wealthiest businessperson in Spain, with a fortune of approximately 4.5 billion euros.
