Master actress Filiz Akın has passed away

Master actress Filiz Akın, one of the "four-leaf clovers" of Turkish cinema who had been receiving treatment in the hospital for some time, has passed away at the age of 82.

The Ministry of Health announced the sad news. In the statement made by the Ministry, it was stated: "Filiz Akın, one of the rare names of Turkish cinema, has passed away in the hospital where she was receiving treatment. We wish God's mercy upon Filiz Akın, who left unforgettable marks in our cinema history; we extend our condolences to her family, loved ones, and the art community."

SHE HAD BEEN TRANSFERRED TO ISTANBUL BY AIR AMBULANCE

Filiz Akın, who had been receiving treatment in Bodrum since September 1st due to pneumonia and infections, was transferred to Istanbul on the night of January 13th by an air ambulance belonging to the Ministry of Health under the direction of the Presidency. Filiz Akın's treatment was continuing in Istanbul.

WHO IS FİLİZ AKIN?

Filiz Akın, who is etched in memories with her elegance, poise, and successful acting during the golden age of Turkish cinema, is considered one of the most iconic actresses of Yeşilçam. The artist, whose real name is Suna Akın, was born in Ankara on January 2, 1943.

Akın began her education at Ankara College and later studied for a time at the Ankara University Faculty of Language, History and Geography. She drew attention by winning a competition she entered in 1962 and stepped into cinema the same year with the film "Akasyalar Açarken". She was soon discovered by the leading directors and producers of the era.

Referred to as one of the "four-leaf clovers of Yeşilçam" alongside Türkan Şoray, Hülya Koçyiğit, and Fatma Girik in the 1960s and 70s, Akın generally portrayed modern, urban, and educated female characters. She shared lead roles with famous male actors of the period such as Cüneyt Arkın, Ediz Hun, Kartal Tibet, Kadir İnanır, and Tarık Akan. She received great acclaim with unforgettable films such as "Ankara Ekspresi", "Utanç", "Tatlı Dillim", "Yalancı Yarim", and "Ali Cengiz Oyunu".

Moving away from cinema in the 1980s and settling in France, Filiz Akın returned to the spotlight in the 1990s with television programs, columns, and books. Her books titled "Hayat Bir Gün, O da Bugün" and "Lezzete Merhaba" met with readers and received interest.

The artist, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2002, regained her health after a difficult treatment process and carried out work aimed at creating social awareness regarding the fight against cancer.
