In a broadcast he attended, Akpınar responded to the statement, "They say the death penalty should be brought back for rapists, perverts, and child killers."

Emphasizing that he is against the death penalty, the veteran actor said, "God gives life, the state does not take life. The state should not take life, but much more deterrent punishments can be given."
