Movements of Gelendost the Stork living in Tekirdağ will be monitored

According to a statement made by Trakya Electricity Distribution Inc. (TREDAŞ), a study has been initiated by TREDAŞ and the 1st Regional Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks to investigate the effects of climate change and human activity on the lives of storks.

Within the scope of the study, a camera system was installed on the platform where the stork lands, and the stork's movements have begun to be monitored.

In the statement, TREDAŞ General Manager Reşit Bilgili stated that they view drawing attention to a global problem like climate change and protecting natural life as part of their social responsibility.

'WE ARE STRIVING TO PROVIDE HABITATS'

Stating that Thrace is one of the important places where migratory birds and storks stop over, Bilgili said, "We are striving to provide habitats where birds will not be harmed by installing platforms on some utility poles."

Reminding that a special platform was built for "Gelendost" in 2017, Bilgili noted that the movements of the stork, which has adopted the platform as its nest, can be followed at any moment.

Bilgili stated that they are conducting a joint study with the Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, adding, "We believe that this study will provide important data for determining the measures that need to be taken in the future by examining the behaviors of storks and understanding how they react to environmental changes."
