New Zealand MP Efeso Collins passes away
In New Zealand, Green Party MP Efeso Collins has passed away after collapsing during a charity run event he was attending in the capital, Auckland.
Efeso Collins collapsed during a charity run where he was carrying a water bucket at a festival organized by the charity 'ChildFund Water Fun' to support local communities.
According to reports by Stuff News, despite the intervention of the medical team at the festival site, Collins could not be saved.
Collins, a Green Party MP of Samoan descent, was 49 years old.
'A KIND PERSON'
New Zealand Green Party co-leaders Marama Davidson and James Shaw stated in a joint statement regarding Collins' death: "New Zealand and the Green Party have lost one of the kindest and most selfless people for equality and justice."
The statement added: "Efeso Collins was a community leader who earned the respect of all parties and the public."
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and opposition leader Chris Hipkins also issued messages of condolence following Collins' death.
