Nur Sürer's response to Farah Zeynep Abdullah's words was not delayed.
Arguing that Yılmaz Güney is an important figure for filmmakers, Sürer stated the following:
"In our history dating back to Yeşilçam, no filmmaker can or would say the slightest thing about Yılmaz Güney. He is our treasure, he is the red line for filmmakers, but some reckless people haven't even watched his films. People who haven't watched a single Yılmaz Güney film. The man has been dead for 40 years, and someone who is 30 years old can make up a story about Yılmaz Güney. If you ask them, 'Have you watched a Yılmaz Güney film?' No."
THERE HAD BEEN A YILMAZ GÜNEY CONTROVERSY BEFORE
Writer Murathan Mungan had posted on social media for the anniversary of Yılmaz Güney's death: "It is the 37th anniversary of Yılmaz Güney's death. Besides being a good director, a good actor, and a good screenwriter, he was the best walking man of our cinema. No one else could ever touch the deepest part of our souls while looking with sadness by slightly tilting their head to the side like he did."
Responding to Mungan's post, Farah Zeynep Abdullah had said, "Let's say he was the best walking man of our cinema, and also a woman-beater who was rich and effective in using weapons in terms of types of violence."
Nur Sürer had previously stated, "It is not anyone's place to talk about Yılmaz Güney. Yılmaz Güney is a milestone of cinema, that's all. Let them do even a fraction of what he did, and then they can talk. Yılmaz Güney is ours; that is, he is the red line for filmmakers. Of course, I was hurt by these statements."
