Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan receives royal title

It was announced in March 2024 that Nolan would be knighted by King Charles. Director Christopher Nolan, known for his complex narratives in films that often play with non-linear structures and the concept of time, and his wife, Emma Thomas, have received the royal honor from the British monarchy.

The Oscar-winning Nolan has progressed over more than 25 years of filmmaking from low-budget independent films to some of the biggest blockbusters ever made. Among the famous films of Nolan, one of the most renowned filmmakers and directors of modern cinema, are Interstellar, Tenet, The Dark Knight, Man of Steel, The Prestige, Inception, Memento, and Oppenheimer.

Nolan began making short films at the age of 7 with his father's Super-8 camera. While studying English Literature at University College London, he shot 16-millimeter films, where he learned the guerrilla techniques he would later use to make his first feature film, Following (1998), on a budget of approximately 6 thousand dollars.

This neo-noir thriller gained recognition at many international film festivals before its theatrical release and earned Nolan enough reputation to secure significant funding for his next film.
