Pantyhose murder: Requested sentence for singer Seçil Çiftçi and her father announced

The defendant in custody, Seçil Çiftçi, was brought to the hearing at the Istanbul 19th High Criminal Court. The defendant not in custody, Cemal Çiftçi, and the lawyers for both parties were also present in the courtroom.

The prosecutor at the hearing announced their opinion. In the opinion, it was stated that the victim's general bodily trauma resulted from brain hemorrhaging and strangulation with a pair of pantyhose.

Considering the physical build of the defendant Seçil Çiftçi, it was stated that she could not have committed the act alone, and it was assessed that she and her father, Cemal Çiftçi, committed the murder together.

PROSECUTOR REQUESTS AGGRAVATED LIFE SENTENCES

The prosecutor requested an aggravated life sentence for both Seçil Çiftçi and her father, Cemal Çiftçi, for the crime of "premeditated murder." The prosecutor also requested that Cemal Çiftçi, who is being tried without being in custody, be arrested.

CONTINUATION OF DETENTION ORDERED

Seçil Çiftçi and the lawyers requested time to prepare their defense against the prosecutor's opinion. The court panel decided to continue the detention of Seçil Çiftçi and adjourned the hearing to allow for the preparation of defenses.

INDICTMENT

The indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office states that an investigation was launched after an unidentified person was found dead near the Sazak Çeşme Recreation Area in Sancaktepe on January 1, 2023, and that it was determined the deceased was Semih Sevim (40), who had previously been reported missing.

The indictment explains that there is a conviction that the defendant Seçil Çiftçi could not have caused the identified injuries on her own and that she and her father carried out the acts that caused the victim's death together. It is requested that Seçil Çiftçi and her father, Cemal Çiftçi, be sentenced to separate aggravated life sentences for the crime of premeditated murder.
