Pelin Batu: 'Without women, you start the race 5-0 behind'

Actress, presenter, and historian Pelin Batu, was a guest on T-Talks. 

Emphasizing that the first female members of parliament to enter the assembly had backgrounds in teaching, Pelin Batu stated, "The Republic and women's rights are two inseparable concepts. Women mean the education of society. Because those women educate the next generation.

Education does not just happen at school desks; education begins at home. And if those women had not acted with the idealism of the Republic, society would not have been able to progress." she said.

'THEY SEE THAT YOU WOULD START 5-0 BEHIND'

Also touching upon the importance Mustafa Kemal Atatürk placed on women's rights, Batu said, "Why did such important figures as Mustafa Kemal and Tunalı Hilmi emphasize the welfare and progress of women in society? Because they saw that if the society's economy and its race with the West were to be entered, one would start 5-0 behind without women."  she said.

'WE ACHIEVED A TREMENDOUS STRUGGLE'

Pelin Batu gave the following message for the 100th anniversary of the Republic: "We must never lose our hope. Because 100 years ago, despite all the impossibilities, while the world was slicing our country like a cake and sharing it among themselves, we achieved a tremendous struggle. Despite all the impossibilities, we realized a miracle."
