Poet Ahmet Telli has passed away

Sad news has arrived regarding Ahmet Telli, who was undergoing treatment. Telli has passed away.

Poet Ahmet Telli had been intubated on July 8. The news of his death was shared by the Revolutionary 78ers Federation, of which he was a member.

The announcement stated, "We have lost our master poet Ahmet Telli. Our condolences to Turkey and our poetry community."

The Revolutionary 78ers had made the following statement after Ahmet Telli was intubated:

Unfortunately, a new phase has been entered in the treatment of poet Ahmet Telli. Despite the treatment protocols applied so far, he has been intubated as of today. As the Revolutionary 78ers Federation, the Science, Art and Literature Association, and his family, we are closely following the process. We are still hoping to receive good news.

Who is Ahmet Telli?

Born on December 2, 1946, in Çankırı, Ahmet Telli touched the lives of thousands of students by working as a Turkish and literature teacher for many years following his education at the Gazi Education Institute. Telli, who was part of the second generation of the post-1960 socialist realist poetry movement, left deep marks on Turkish poetry with his unique lyricism and a style that blended melancholy with rebellion.

The poet, whose work was crowned with prestigious awards in the literary world, was deemed worthy of the Ömer Faruk Toprak Poetry Award for "Hüznün İsyan Olur" (Your Melancholy Becomes Rebellion), the Yazko Poetry Encouragement Award for "Saklı Kalan" (What Remains Hidden), and the Mediterranean Golden Orange Poetry Award for his work titled "Nida" (Call).
