Prison sentence requested for suspect who insulted singer Yusuf Güney

The investigation into suspect A.A. (54), who is alleged to have insulted singer Yusuf Güney on social media on February 9, 2023, by commenting "Instead of barking, put your hand to something, you are the dishonorable one" on a post regarding the February 6, 2023 earthquakes, has been completed.

"I EXPRESSED MY CRITICISM"

It was learned that in his statement to the police regarding the matter, suspect A.A. said, "On February 6, 2023, we experienced the earthquake disaster that affected many of our people.

Yusuf Güney had shared a video he filmed in the earthquake zone. In the video, he made statements claiming that the state was inadequate and disparaging the state and its administrators.

I made a post in response to his insulting post. I expressed my criticism because I found his post, which disparaged the state without him trying to fix the shortcomings seen by those who went to the earthquake zone or trying to help anyone, to be wrong," he stated.

REQUEST FOR UP TO 2 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS IN PRISON

In the indictment prepared by the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was explained that suspect A.A. had made the comment "Instead of barking, put your hand to something, you are the dishonorable one" on social media directed at the complainant, Yusuf Güney.

The prepared indictment also stated that while the suspect's action fell within the scope of reconciliation, reconciliation negotiations could not be conducted between the parties.

The indictment requested that suspect A.A. be sentenced to between 3 months and 15 days to 2 years and 4 months in prison for the crime of "public insult via audio, written, or visual message."
