ÖVÜÇ'S DEFENSE
In his statement, Murat Övüç indicated that he recorded the video on a plane and only intended to make a joke by covering his head with the shawl on his shoulder. Övüç stated that he used the words, "What should I do, girl? Look, here you go," for humorous purposes and that he does not accept the charges.
TRIAL PROCESS BEGINS
The trial of Övüç will begin in the coming days at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance. The prosecutor's office is requesting that Övüç be sentenced to between 1 year and 6 months and 4 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of 'publicly inciting hatred and hostility'.
