Queen's music rights sold for a record price

'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'We Will Rock You', among many other hit songs that have endured to this day, are part of the Queen music catalog that has been sold for a record price.

Sony Music has paid a historic sum of 1.2 billion dollars for the catalog, which consists of the hit songs and best-selling albums of the British rock band that was founded in 1970 and has captivated the entire world for decades.

The only revenue not included in Sony Music's historic music catalog deal will be from live performances. Founding members Brian May and Roger Taylor, who still actively tour with singer Adam Lambert following the 1991 death of the band's legendary lead singer Freddie Mercury, will retain their concert earnings.

This acquisition is considered the largest purchase ever made for a single artist's catalog in music history. To date, there has never been a sale exceeding 1 billion dollars.

The figure announced in the agreement is 1 billion British Pounds. The value of the deal in US Dollars exceeds 1.2 billion dollars.

In February, Sony Music also purchased half of Michael Jackson's catalog for 1 billion 200 million dollars.
