Rahmi Koç: 'Everything that happens to us is due to population growth'
Businessman Rahmi Koç (93) made striking remarks in an interview given on the occasion of the Republic's 100th anniversary. Koç said, "Everything that happens to us is due to population growth. Schools aren't enough, food isn't enough, hospitals aren't enough, nothing is enough."
Koç Holding A.Ş. Honorary Chairman and Board member Rahmi Koç was a guest on the program titled "News interviews from us, Second century meetings."
Making notable statements during the program, 93-year-old Rahmi Koç complained about population growth and the resulting insufficiency of resources.
'EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO US IS DUE TO POPULATION GROWTH'
Stating that they used to secretly provide food aid to a friend during his school years, Koç said the following:
We used to go to school with lunch boxes, we would give them to the cafeteria and they would heat them up. We would also leave food for children who couldn't afford it, but they wouldn't know it was from us; the administration would deliver it to them. Ankara was small in those years, everyone knew everyone.
We say 15 million people were raised in 10 years; at that time, the population of Greece was 6 million. Now the population of Greece is 11 million, and we are 85-86 million. Everything that happens to us is due to population growth. Schools aren't enough, food isn't enough, hospitals aren't enough, nothing is enough."
