Release date set for December 26 for the second season of Netflix's most-watched series, Squid Game

Netflix's most-watched series, 'Squid Game', is returning with a new season. Netflix has announced that the second season of the series will be released on December 26, 2024.

Director, writer, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk shared the news of the second season's release in a letter. Additionally, the announcement confirmed that the final season of the series will meet audiences in 2025.

Hwang Dong-hyuk, who made history as the first Asian to win the Best Director award in the Drama Series category at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, is once again taking on the roles of director, screenwriter, and producer for the series. While Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo return to their roles from the first season, the new cast members joining the colorful ensemble include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.

The plot of the second season of Squid Game is as follows:

"Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 is determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their treacherous games. Investing his winnings into this search, Gi-hun starts from the most obvious place and goes after the man in the suit playing ddakji on the subway. However, when his efforts finally bear fruit, it turns out that the path to ending the game is deadlier than he thought: to end the game, he must re-enter it."
