Richard Gere issues 'Trump' warning
US actor and producer Richard Gere, who was honored with a career award at the Goya Awards, one of the most prestigious awards in Spanish cinema, argued that the world is in danger because of US President Donald Trump.
US actor Gere, who is set to receive the "Goya International" award, held a press conference at the Alhambra Palace.
Gere harshly criticized US President Donald Trump, stating, "The people voted for him and elected him, but the situation is worse than I thought; I am shocked.
I think what he is doing is much worse than what he promised during his election campaign."
"Everyone is at risk, and the presence of the billionaires Trump has surrounded himself with is a particularly serious danger. The world is in danger with Trump," said Gere, referring to US businessman Elon Musk, adding, "The marriage between the billionaires in power is a very serious problem. It is something that will not only put the film industry at risk."
Touching upon social aid projects for the homeless, Gere said, "Ending up on the street is something that could happen to anyone. I even encountered an actor living on the street for various reasons. None of us are safe."
Gere, who has been living in Madrid, the capital of Spain, since October 2024 with his wife Alejandra Silva, also expressed that he is very happy with his new life there.
The famous actor also stated that he would be pleased to work with the Oscar-winning Spanish director Pedro Almodovar one day.
