Richard Sherman has passed away
Songwriter Richard Sherman, who composed the music for famous films such as Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book, has died at the age of 95.
Richard Sherman, who wrote unforgettable songs for Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, has passed away.
Sherman, along with his late brother Robert, won two Academy Awards for Walt Disney's 1964 hit film Mary Poppins. They also received a Grammy for best film or TV score. Robert Sherman passed away in London in 2012 at the age of 86.
The Walt Disney Co. announced that Sherman died on Saturday at a hospital in Los Angeles due to age-related illness:
“For generations, moviegoers and theme park guests have been introduced to the world of Disney through the Sherman brothers' magnificent and timeless songs. Even today, the duo's work remains the quintessential lyrical voice of Walt Disney.”
The films for which he served as a co-songwriter and composer also include Winnie the Pooh, The Slipper and the Rose, Snoopy Come Home, Charlotte's Web, and The Magic of Lassie.
In a 2005 interview with the Associated Press, Richard Sherman said: “When we sit down and work together, good things happen. We've done that our whole lives. We've been working together since almost college.”
Richard Sherman lived with his wife, Elizabeth, and their two children, Gregory and Victoria.
He also had a daughter named Lynda from a previous marriage.
