Russell Crowe on 'Gladiator 2': 'There is a bit of jealousy'

Russell Crowe, who won the 'Best Actor' Oscar for his portrayal of the character 'Maximus' in the 2000 film 'Gladiator', will not be part of the cast for the film's sequel, which is being made 23 years later.

Speaking about the second film in the series, Crowe said the following:

"I'm slightly uncomfortable with the fact that they're making another one, because, of course, I'm dead, and I have no say in what gets done. But I've heard some things and I thought, 'No, no, no, that's not the journey for that character.' But I can't say anything about the new film, it's not my place.

Looking back, the age I was when I made that film and the things that happened after, the doors that film opened for me... I'll be totally honest. There is definitely a bit of melancholy, a bit of jealousy."

EXPECTED TO BE RELEASED IN NOVEMBER 2024

The second film, which will again be directed by Ridley Scott, will tell the story of what happens 30 years after the death of General Maximus.

The film, which will feature Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, and Barry Keoghan in its cast, is expected to be released on November 22, 2024.

Paul Mescal, who will take on the lead role in the film, will portray the character of 'Lucius'.
