Safiye Soyman breaks down in tears at her son's graveside

A memorial service was held at the Gündoğan Cemetery in Bodrum for Harun Akaröz, the MS-afflicted son of artist Safiye Soyman, who passed away in July 2024 in the Ağlasun district of Burdur due to respiratory failure. The ceremony was attended by Safiye Soyman, Faik Öztürk, family members, and close friends. While the Quran was recited and prayers were offered at Harun Akaröz's graveside, refreshments were served to the attendees. Unable to hold back her tears during the visit, Soyman stated that she could not get used to her son's absence and said the following:

"It's as if he never died; he is always lying here anyway. I don't know how the second year passed so quickly for him. It's like a dream, as if my son passed away just yesterday. That's how it is; our faces are always smiling, but inside we are burning in a completely different way. May God not give the pain of losing a child to anyone. It is something very different. It is always burning, he is so young. This pain does not fade. Neither a mother's nor a father's pain, none of it compares. Between the pain of my mother and my father, this one hit harder. May God not let anyone experience this. I visit constantly, summer and winter; I never leave him alone. My eyes are always watery; even when I sing my songs, my heart cries while my face smiles. Of course, that is the requirement of my profession; as they say, my inside is burning while my outside looks stylish. I was here during the last holiday as well. We are here in the summer and I am in Istanbul in the winter, but I come to visit constantly."

Stating that they have been performing acts of charity in his memory, Soyman said, "Everything goes in his memory; may God accept the charities we have done. He is on my mind day and night, my eyes are tearful, it never stops. I watch his videos every day. I live with him until morning. He had MS, but not every MS case is the same. It visits some, and never comes back. For example, Türkan Şoray and Serdar Ortaç have also experienced it. My child's illness was advanced and active. His charity work was carried out by his brother Bekir and us."

Faik Öztürk, on the other hand, stated that the pain remains as fresh as the first day, saying, "Of course, the fire burns where it falls. It is the anniversary, the second year. Last night, the image of the coffin being taken and brought, and people coming and going in front of his house, all came to life before our eyes. Being a mother is very difficult. I know that Safiye sleeps with his towel because it has his scent. May God give patience to all mothers and fathers. We will all end up there one day, there is no return. Therefore, it is about leaving this world with clean, righteous things and knowing how to account for it. I wish everyone patience."
