Saudi Arabia's female robot Sara banned from discussing sex and politics

Saudi Arabia's robot couple Muhammad and Sara, introduced earlier this month, continue to attract the attention of the global press. Following Muhammad's harassment of a female presenter during the launch, the restrictions imposed on Sara are now being discussed.

According to a report in Sözcü, Elie Metri, CEO of the Riyadh-based firm QSS AI & Robots, stated that Sara is programmed to refuse conversations about sex or politics. Discussing either topic openly is illegal for Saudi women under Sharia law in the country.

Sara knows she is a woman, is 25 years old, stands 1.62 meters tall, and wears Saudi attire. She must be polite, must not talk about politics, and must not talk about sex.

Despite attempts to modernize Saudi society in recent years, Saudi Arabia's legal system is based on Sharia law.

Wearing a traditional Saudi abaya, Sara is the first humanoid robot designed and manufactured in Saudi Arabia, and likely in the Middle East. She speaks both Arabic and English.

Metri stated that Sara has attracted attention after appearing at various technology fairs and effectively highlights Saudi Arabia's advancements in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence.
