Selda Bağcan becomes target of scammers: 'They were very organized'
Selda Bağcan was nearly a victim of scammers who posed as police officers over the phone. The artist, who has experienced similar incidents twice before, stated that this time she encountered master scammers: "They were very organized. I was almost scammed. I was very scared this time."
Selda Bağcan announced that she narrowly escaped being scammed by individuals who called her on the phone the other day.
The artist stated that this is the 3rd time such an incident has happened to her:
"This time they were more organized. The first time, I was shopping. A call came in, and the person said, 'I am calling from the Sivas Governor's private office.' They said they were going to buy wheelchairs and asked for money. Then, when he continued the conversation as the Kayseri Governor instead of the Sivas Governor, I understood.
The second time, we were on our way to a concert. A number called and said, 'Your phone number has been found in a file related to terrorism.' When I said, 'Look dear, I am an artist. My phone number can be found by anyone. Hang up the phone before I report you,' they hung up."
'THEY SOUNDED LIKE THEY WERE CALLING FROM THE POLICE STATION'
Selda Bağcan stated that she was very scared during the last incident she experienced:
"On January 9, a call came in. Someone claiming to be a secretary connected me to their chief. It was as if they were calling from the police station. The chief was speaking in such a harsh tone that I truly thought he was a police officer. He told me, '16 bank accounts have been opened in your name and they are sending money laundering funds abroad.' I got scared when I heard this. They were very organized.
He started asking questions and said, 'What is the homeland to us?' I replied, 'Our mother.' With so much money laundering news circulating, can you imagine Selda Bağcan's name being associated with such things? I was terrified, I was very scared. Then the person on the phone said they found my ID at a jewelry store robbery. They even said they brought half of the gold to my house. I said, 'No one would believe that Selda Bağcan would rob a jewelry store after seeing her ID.'
Towards the end of the conversation, I realized they were scammers. But I had already let slip how much money I had in the bank. I changed my account numbers. They almost trapped me, they almost tricked me."
