She found her own grave after 32 years: Abandoned at a mosque courtyard when she was one day old

Born 32 years ago in Nevşehir, Ayşe Neşeli was left in a mosque courtyard when she was just one day old.

Found by citizens, Ayşe Neşeli was later given to a family for adoption.

Raised as an adopted child in a family until the age of 12, Ayşe Neşeli ran away from home after the death of her adoptive mother. Found by police teams, Ayşe Neşeli learned that she was adopted after overhearing a conversation between her adoptive father and the police while she was being handed over to him.

Waiting until she was 18 to pursue a legal battle, Ayşe Neşeli began searching for her biological family. After failing to get results from her own efforts, she appeared on a private television channel to ask for help. Learning her mother's identity following a tip-off to the television channel, Ayşe Neşeli applied to the court and had her deceased mother's grave opened. After the DNA results confirmed that her mother was L.S., Ayşe Neşeli, who continued her legal battle to find her father, requested a new DNA test based on allegations that Ö.T. could be her father. Upon receiving the DNA results at the court, Ayşe Neşeli learned her father's identity and celebrated the result by having drums and zurnas played outside the courthouse and in her neighborhood.

THEY BURIED HER IN THE CEMETERY BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT SHE WAS DEAD

Explaining her experience to İHA, Ayşe Neşeli said, "After I was born, someone from my family left me in the mosque courtyard. Later, they told everyone that the child had died after birth and that we had buried her in the cemetery. My entire family and everyone around us thought that I had died after birth and was buried in the cemetery."

'I LEARNED AT THE AGE OF 12'

Stating that she learned she was adopted at the age of 12, Neşeli said, "A family took me in and adopted me. When my adoptive mother, whom I knew as my real mother, passed away, I ran away from home. I learned that I was adopted after a conversation between the police and my adoptive father while they were handing me over to him. Because I was too young, I did not make any attempts to find my family."

'I FOUND MY DECEASED MOTHER FIRST'

Ayşe Neşeli stated, "I tried very hard to find my real family, but I could not get any results. Finally, I appeared on a private television channel because I wanted to find my family. Upon the tip-off, I learned that my mother was L.S. Following my application, the grave was opened by the decision of the Prosecutor's Office and a DNA match was performed. The match came back positive. Later, I wanted to find my father. All allegations pointed to my aunt's husband, Ö.T. Based on these allegations, I filed a complaint and requested a DNA test. The result of this test also came back positive. In this way, I reached both my deceased mother and my father."

'I FOUND MY GRAVE WHILE SEARCHING FOR MY FAMILY'

Ayşe Neşeli, who left no stone unturned to find her family, said that she found her own grave during this process. Neşeli said, "In the research I did after finding my mother, I learned that my mother had a daughter, but that she died shortly after birth. Actually, I started looking for my own grave. Family relatives said they buried the child in the family cemetery. In this way, I found my own grave."

Ayşe Neşeli, who learned the DNA results from the court, celebrated this joy by having drums and zurnas played outside the courthouse and in her neighborhood.

Nimet Tosun, who learned that her roommate was her adoptive cousin, said in her statement, "I took Ayşe Neşeli into my home to look after my disabled son. We have been staying together for a long time. Ayşe Neşeli said that she had found her family and that her brother was coming to see her. I accepted. The person who came to our house and said 'I am Ayşe's brother' turned out to be my cousin. In my childhood, I had heard that Aunt L.S. had given birth to a daughter and that she had died after birth. It turns out the girl who was said to have died was Ayşe Neşeli."
