In Kadıköy, on May 2, 2023, around 19:00, a dispute broke out between Cihan Aymaz and Mehmet Caymaz, who said he did not like the music being played. Caymaz stabbed the musician in the heart with a knife he pulled out. As the young musician fell into the sea from the impact of the blow, the knife-wielding attacker jumped into the sea after Aymaz and continued to assault him.

The musician, who was rushed to the hospital, lost his life, and in the investigation conducted, a lawsuit was filed against Mehmet Caymaz with a request for life imprisonment for the crime of "Intentional killing".

PROSECUTOR ANNOUNCES OPINION

At the Istanbul 22nd High Criminal Court, the hearing was attended by the detained defendant Mehmet Caymaz, who was brought from the prison where he is held, and the lawyers for both parties were present in the courtroom.

In their opinion, the public prosecutor stated that on the day of the incident, the defendant approached the victim and asked him to play a song, shouted while swearing and pointing a pocketknife, then wounded the victim in the neck area with the knife, pushed the victim into the sea, and then jumped in after him, and that the victim, who was pulled from the sea by citizens, lost his life.

REQUEST FOR LIFE IMPRISONMENT IN OPINION

Emphasizing that although detained defendant Mehmet Caymaz claimed in his defense that he acted in self-defense, no evidence was found to support or prove this situation, the public prosecutor emphasized in their opinion that the entire incident was observed from camera footage and that, accordingly, the defendant's defenses could not be credited, and requested that defendant Mehmet Caymaz be sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime of "Intentional killing".

'I JUMPED INTO THE SEA TO SAVE HIM'

In his defense against the opinion, detained defendant Mehmet Caymaz stated that he reiterated his previous defenses, saying, "I do not agree with the opinion. I pulled the knife to protect myself. Despite this, I did not attack the victim. I stopped. This fact is visible in the camera recordings. I pulled the knife when the victim made a move towards me. Later, I jumped into the sea, risking my own life, to save him. I do not accept the accusation. I request my acquittal."

DETENTION TO CONTINUE

At the end of the hearing, the court decided to grant time for the lawyers of the parties to prepare their defense against the opinion and to continue the detention of defendant Mehmet Caymaz, adjourning the case.
