Sıla's statement on 'retirement'
Sıla was a guest on the program 'What Should One Do to Say They Have Lived?' broadcast on Zorlu PSM's YouTube channel. Answering Pınar Sabancı's questions, the singer said, "If I retire, I will grow old, and that does not suit me."
Sıla made notable remarks during a program she attended.
The singer responded to the question, "What should one do to say they have lived?" as follows:
"One must produce! There is no such thing as retiring. If I retire, I will grow old, and that does not suit me. One needs to produce, needs to be very busy, needs to feel a lot, and needs to continue by understanding both the good and the bad. One must also learn good lessons, but one should not torment oneself too much either."
WHO IS SILA?
Sıla Gençoğlu, or by her stage name Sıla (born June 17, 1980), is a Turkish singer-songwriter and composer. She was born in Acıpayam, Denizli, and moved first to İzmir and then to Istanbul for her education. She attended the İzmir Private Tevfik Fikret High School.
She began receiving stage training during her high school years. Following her jazz education at Bilgi University, she worked as a backing vocalist for Kenan Doğulu for a long time.
Sıla, who made her breakthrough with the song "...Dan Sonra"—which was featured on her self-titled album in 2007 and reached number one on the Official Turkey Chart—continued her chart success with the critically and commercially successful albums she released afterward: İmza (2009), Konuşmadığımız Şeyler Var (2010), Vaveyla (2012), Yeni Ay (2014), Mürekkep (2016), and Şarkıcı (2022).
The songs "Sevişmeden Uyumayalım", "Acısa da Öldürmez", "Kafa", "Boş Yere", "Vaziyetler", "Yabancı", and "Hediye" from these albums also topped the charts in Turkey. In addition to these, many of her other songs such as "Yoruldum", "İmkânsız", and "Zor Sevdiğimden" also became hits and entered the top five.
Beyond her singing, Sıla stands out for her identity as a songwriter and composer praised by critics, having written almost all the songs on her own albums alone and composed them together with Efe Bahadır.
She has also written many song lyrics for other singers. She became the best-selling singer in Turkey in 2010 with Konuşmadığımız Şeyler Var and in 2014 with Yeni Ay.
To date, she has won dozens of awards, including four Golden Butterfly Awards and seven Kral TV Video Music Awards.
