It was announced that the actress, known for her roles in productions such as 'Squid Game', 'Train to Busan', and 'Notebook From My Mother', had been diagnosed with stomach cancer about three months ago and died as a result of a heart attack she suffered in the hospital.
Lee Joo-sil had battled stage four breast cancer 30 years ago and managed to overcome the disease after a 13-year treatment process. The passing of the artist, who left a mark on the world of cinema and television, has left her fans in mourning.
She appeared before the audience as the mother of the undercover detective Hwang Joon-Ho (Wi Ha Joon) and the stepmother of Hwang In Ho (Lee Byung-Hun) in the globally popular series 'Squid Game'. Before this role, Lee Joo-sil had appeared on screen for 22 episodes in the series 'The Uncanny Counter', and 'Squid Game' was her final role on screen.
The actress began her cinema career in 1980 by taking part in projects such as 'Lady President', 'Heaven’s Garden', and 'Stormy Woman'.
