Statement from Burcu Esmersoy after 'liking' an Israel post

Famous presenter Burcu Esmersoy faced significant backlash after liking an Israel-related post on her Instagram account.

Esmersoy, who liked a post by Israeli actress Gal Gadot Varsano that read 'I stand with Israel,' issued a statement following the reactions.

Esmersoy used the following expressions:

“I am very sad. Every day, I show my reaction as much as I can to this horrific slaughter, the great persecution inflicted upon innocent people, and the immense fear being caused, including the attack on the Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza, where nearly 500 civilians lost their lives and hundreds were injured. Like all well-intentioned people, I have been shattered for days. While grieving over all of this, I woke up to insults this morning. For a long time, I couldn't understand the reason.”

“I AM TRYING TO FIND WHO LIKED IT”

“As you can imagine, the colleagues I work with in the office also have access to my social media accounts; I am trying to find out whose mistake this was in this incident, but first of all, I wanted to make a statement to you regarding the situation. This is not a competition about who is more sensitive; this is a war.”

“PLEASE FORGIVE ME”

“While innocent people are dying, I am ashamed to even make another statement about this matter. Now is the time to be united, the time to condemn war and all forms of war together. I know everyone is sensitive, but instead of directing our anger toward the wrong channels, it is time to call on the whole world to unite in ending this great catastrophe. I am infinitely embarrassed for occupying the public agenda due to reasons beyond my control; please forgive me.”
