Statement from Israeli-born singer Linet: 'I am experiencing this brutality to my core'

Turkish-born Jewish singer Linet posted "Hamas is a murderer" on her Instagram account the other day. The singer felt compelled to make a statement after her failure to mention Israel's hospital attack drew backlash.

Publishing her message on Instagram, Linet began by saying, "I think that having to express myself while so much pain is being experienced is another form of pain itself. But I have to do this," and continued with the following remarks:

"I am a member of a Jewish family that has lived on these lands since my ancestors arrived in Turkey 500 years ago, during the time of the Ottoman Empire."

'I AM EXPERIENCING THIS BRUTALITY TO MY CORE'

"I am a Turkish citizen who has been practicing her art on these lands for 30 years, earning her living from these lands, and paying her taxes in this country. On these lands, we have always lived as Muslims, Christians, and Jews in friendship and brotherhood, and we have been neighbors. We will continue to live this way from now on. I have been experiencing this brutality that has been going on for days to my core, just like all of you."

'MY FRIENDS ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WAR'

"My only wish is for this oppression and this bloodshed to end as soon as possible for both sides. My own family members, my young nieces and nephews, and my friends are currently in the middle of the war. There are no winners in war. Bloodshed has no religion, language, or race!"

'I INVITE YOU TO BE CONSCIENTIOUS'

"It is not conscientious to take me, judge me, and target me by forcing me to take a side on such an issue. I invite you to be conscientious and sensible when making your comments. My wish is for the bloodshed to stop and for this war to end as soon as possible. I pray for God's mercy upon all those who have lost their lives."
