Renowned Sumerologist Muazzez İlmiye Çığ, who made significant contributions to Turkish history and culture, has passed away at the age of 110.
One of Turkey's prominent scientists, Sumerologist Muazzez İlmiye Çığ, has passed away at the age of 110.
Born in 1914, the Sumerologist and academic, who was receiving treatment for an illness at a private hospital in the Mezitli district, had been admitted to intensive care. Despite the interventions of doctors, Çığ passed away.

The news of Çığ's death was announced by Kaynak Yayınları. In a statement made on social media, the following words were used: "We have lost our esteemed author Muazzez İlmiye Çığ, the tireless and ageless woman of science of Turkey's struggle for enlightenment, the last Queen of Sumer. Our condolences to her family, her readers, and our country."
