Survivor finale to be held at Boğaziçi University: Backlash grows

It has emerged that the finale of the Survivor 2025 competition will be held at Boğaziçi University. Upon learning that the competition would take place at Boğaziçi University, students and academics reacted with harsh criticism.

According to the university's academic calendar, students have make-up exams and the School of Foreign Languages (YADYOK) English Proficiency Exam scheduled for June 11, 12, and 13, the same dates the final competition is set to take place.

"THIS IS A NEW PEAK"

Speaking to Can Öztürk from T24, Prof. Dr. Mine Eder from the Boğaziçi University Department of Political Science and International Relations stated the following:

"It is said that an agreement was made between the school and the competition, and it will be held there."

"Final exams are over. Grades will be submitted after the holiday. Grades will be announced, and then summer school begins. Therefore, there will still be student traffic there. The dormitories never close anyway, as students also come for summer school."

"They didn't know how to commercialize the university, this is now a new peak."

"If you ask if it was a surprise, it wasn't. We have gone from being a very meticulous institution regarding the use of this campus in advertisements to a disorganized university. As you can see, we have become an institution that sells tickets for Survivor."

"They may have arbitrarily created a calendar and had that place cleared before summer school started. Therefore, we might not be able to say that these things are happening while students are there."

"It is never a surprise. They do such things to earn more money, even at the cost of playing with the university's reputation."

"There are make-up exams, they are still ongoing. Furthermore, there is the YADYOK English proficiency exam on the 11th. This example shows the final point reached in the commercialization of the university."

"WHO ELSE WILL THEY LET USE IT"

A student staying in the school's dormitory also reacted to the event with the following words:

"Who else will they continue to let use our university besides us students? Scheduling the finale of such a competition while our and our friends' exams are ongoing, and while we continue to stay in the dorms, shows that the school has a management focused on money rather than students."

"While we show our reaction against rent-seeking areas on campus, including the 'Occupation Cafe,' the administration goes and opens the university's doors to the finale of a competition that will also have outside participation."
