Tarkan protests olive grove law with a poem

The regulation accepted in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) last week, known in the public as the "Olive Grove Law," allowed for olive grove areas to be opened to mining activities. This law drew reactions from a wide segment of society.

Famous artist Tarkan joined these reactions via social media. In a poem he shared on his Instagram account, Tarkan emphasized that olive groves must be protected. He expressed his feelings in his poem with the lines, "Oh my dear olive… What is it that you suffer from these humans?"

Tarkan's post received great attention from his followers. The artist's followers expressed their support with comments such as, "You are different, Tarkan," "You are always a source of hope," "I wish everyone had a conscience like yours," and "Tarkan, the artist of us, the people."

RESISTANCE AGAINST THE LAW

The law allowing olive groves to be opened to mining also caused reactions from villagers coming from various regions of Turkey. The villagers started a hunger strike in front of the Dikmen Gate of the TBMM, continuing their resistance by saying, "Even if you have cast votes in favor, we do not accept it. This law cannot pass. We, the villagers who have been on a hunger strike for three days, will be in front of the parliament again. We will not give up on our lands, our olives."
