The cat on social media's agenda: Lost 6 kilos through Pilates and swimming

Beyza Dikkatli's cat, which she adopted when it was 2.5 months old and named 'Şiraz', gained excessive weight over time following a spaying operation.

Dikkatli noticed that her 4-year-old cat had approached 10 kilos in a short time. Şiraz was taken to a veterinary physical therapy and rehabilitation center due to weight gain caused by overfeeding and inactivity, and the weight loss process began.

Under the supervision of veterinarian Bahri Terzi and veterinary technician and physiotherapist Yağmur Denli, Şiraz began treatment, exercising daily on a treadmill and with a Pilates ball, and also swimming in a pool, losing 6 kilos in 5 months to reach its ideal weight.

DROPPED TO 3.5 KILOS

Şiraz, who was also put on a diet alongside the exercise, dropped to 3.5 kilos.

Yağmur Denli explained that cats and dogs arriving with obesity issues first undergo health checks, and the treatment to be applied is determined based on the cause of the obesity.

Stating that 'Şiraz' reached 10 kilos due to irregular feeding and inactivity following the spaying surgery, Denli noted that they subsequently started a sports and diet program.

'IT DOES NOT LIKE TO MOVE'

Denli said, "Şiraz does not like to move, nor does it like to play games; it prefers only to watch games. Because of this, it gained a lot of weight. Due to the excess weight, it began to experience difficulty walking and even respiratory problems. As it gained weight, we actually entered a vicious cycle; its already minimal movements disappeared completely. Therefore, the weight gain was a bit rapid. When there were no problems in its examinations, we put 'Şiraz' on a diet, had it do Pilates, and made it swim."
