The play titled 'Demonte' meets theatergoers in Istanbul
Written by Hakan Tabakan, 'Demonte' continues to meet theatergoers in Istanbul.
'Demonte', written by Hakan Tabakan, directed by Işıl Kasapoğlu, and featuring Nilay Erdönmez and Cem Zeynel Kılıç in its cast, will be staged at Fişekhane on May 24 and at the Semaver Kumpanya Çevre Tiyatrosu on May 25.
THE PLOT OF THE PLAY DEMONTE
Putting the pieces together may not be as easy as we think, or what we build may not even resemble what we desired, or perhaps a person is not even the construct of another. Aliye and Yalçın, in their late thirties, buy flat-pack furniture—two armchairs, a sofa, and a table—thinking they will have a lot of fun that day, evening, and even throughout the night.
Throughout the play, we watch the desire and effort of Aliye, who is (six or seven months) pregnant, to assemble the furniture, and Yalçın's clumsiness. Is it the flat-pack furniture that falls apart as they try to assemble it, or are these lives trapped in a house? Is the missing information in the instruction manual, or is it the dedication of the husband and wife to their relationship? Are what they sought and what they found very different, or has the pot finally found its lid?
Is it desire or love? Passion or logic? Is a child a necessity or a burden for a marriage? Would Aydan Hanım make fun of our couple's clumsiness, or why doesn't a forklift have a horn? Is Oktay a bad friend? And so on... As Woody Allen said, we have questions for all your answers. Ultimately, we do not write to make decisions or pass judgments, and answers provoke questions.
