A tourist favorite: Gacek the obese cat put on a diet

A black and white stray cat named Gacek gained worldwide fame after receiving a 5-star rating from internet users on Google.

Known as the "King of Kaszubska" due to the street where he lived in the city of Szczecin, Poland, Gacek ranked higher on Google than more traditional tourist attractions in the city, such as the award-winning Philharmonic Orchestra and the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle.

However, after local residents expressed concerns about the cat's health and efforts were made to stop visitors from flocking to the town to see and feed him, the adorable animal was removed from Google.

HEALTH PROBLEMS EMERGED

Tourists began constantly giving snacks to Gacek, who received more than 3 thousand reviews on Google. As the cat continued to gain weight, the city's animal shelter issued a call for people not to feed him.

In April, the city's Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals took him in for treatment after he developed problems with his teeth and joints. The veterinarian recommended that Gacek lose 4-5 kg.

Finally, last month, the association announced that Gacek was "in good condition and has found a new home."
