Venice did not find what it expected with the entry fee application.

The practice of charging 5 Euros for entry to Venice, which began in 2024 with the aim of reducing the number of tourists, did not decrease the number of tourists. On the contrary, the number of daily entries in 2024 increased by 7 thousand tourists compared to 2023.

Following this, Italian authorities decided to increase the entry fee to Venice to 10 Euros. Furthermore, the entry fee was applied for 29 days in 2024. This number will be increased to 54 days in 2025.

Those who enter without paying the entry fee are subject to a fine ranging from 50 to 300 Euros.

Currently, 50 thousand people live in Venice. The average daily tourist influx is 40 thousand people.

Jan Van Der Borg, who teaches tourism economics at Ca' Foscari University in Venice, argued that the entry fee would not produce the expected result, stating, "The municipality's revenue will increase, but it will not affect the flow of tourists."
