TÜİK releases data: Significant increase in the number of movie theaters
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced that a total of 371 films were released in 2023, including 147 domestic and 224 foreign films, and that the number of movie theaters reached 2,618.

While the number of spectators for domestic films was 13 million 716 thousand 5, the number of spectators for foreign films was recorded as 17 million 289 thousand 839.
NUMBER OF THEATER HALLS: 808
The number of theater halls in the 2022/23 season was 808, while the number of theater seats was 326,713. The number of theater spectators increased by 15.2 percent in the 2022/23 season to 6 million 279 thousand 512.
The number of works performed in theater halls decreased by 1.7 percent compared to the previous season, reaching 8,223.
In theater, the number of spectators for translated works increased by 37.5 percent to 1 million 726 thousand 3, while the number of spectators for copyrighted works increased by 8.5 percent compared to the previous season to 4 million 553 thousand 509. In the 2022/23 season, the number of performances of children's works in theater halls increased by 20.2 percent to 11,551, while the number of performances of adult works increased by 2.2 percent to 15,848.
In the same season, the number of spectators for children's works increased by 25.1 percent, while the number of spectators for adult works increased by 9.8 percent.
OPERA AND BALLET SPECTATOR NUMBERS INCREASED BY 30.2 PERCENT
In Turkey, during the 2022/23 season, opera and ballet performances were held in halls affiliated with the General Directorate of State Opera and Ballet in 6 provinces. While the number of opera and ballet spectators increased by 30.2 percent compared to the previous season, the number of performances decreased by 15 percent.
6 orchestras, 11 choirs, and 10 ensembles affiliated with the General Directorate of Fine Arts were in operation. The number of spectators for orchestras, choirs, and ensembles increased by 47.1 percent to 266 thousand 23.
While the number of orchestra spectators increased by 62.3 percent compared to the previous season, the number of choir spectators decreased by 19.7 percent, and the number of ensemble spectators increased by 143.7 percent to 76 thousand 479.
