Arda Aydın, guest on 'Filtresiz' with Özge Uzun: 'Attacking Atatürk is a distraction'

The guest this week on the program Filtresiz with Özge Uzun, broadcast on 12punto, was theater, television, and film actor Arda Aydın.

Noting that he is someone who has dedicated himself to cultural enlightenment, Arda Aydın said, 'As a theater artist, I was pursuing how much I could make myself heard as someone who has dedicated himself to cultural enlightenment within the Republic of Turkey.' 

I BECAME A TARGET

Stating that he had become a target of the Akit newspaper and the Gülenists in the past, Aydın continued his words as follows: 

I became a target of the Akit newspaper; I became a target of the Gülenists. I was fired from the theater. There was a coup attempt in 2016. And they fired me afterward. So, as a result of all this, I stand as a target. There is no point in being such a target. But no, I said that I have truths I believe in. If this country, this Republic, has an achievement, it is a cultural achievement. I am someone raised by this cultural achievement. I am someone raised by this country. I owe a debt to this country. My mother and father gave me an education so that I could pay this debt. I received an education in my schools. I said I would do this job. It was written and finished in 2019. And we started performing the 'Bir Atatürk Hikayesi' play. This has truly been a play I have loved performing. 

ATTACKING ATATÜRK IS A DISTRACTION

Emphasizing that attacking Atatürk is a distraction, Aydın said, 'I made a statement. I said that attacking Atatürk is a distraction. And this really agitated some people. Whenever Atatürk's name is mentioned somewhere, know that something is happening in this country at that moment. After I said that, things started happening to me constantly.' 

POVERTY MAKES PEOPLE CONSERVATIVE

Finally, speaking about poverty, Arda Aydın stated that this situation makes people conservative and continued his words as follows: 

'This poverty makes people conservative. By conservatism, I don't mean religion. I mean trying to protect things. If I had social security in this country, I might not be this conservative. I could start to think. Because I would have the opportunity to think. Because instead of thinking about the bread I will eat tomorrow, I would start thinking about the sentences I will utter today. The only way for this country to get rid of this poverty is for some people who are assumed to lead society to say that we must develop this culture.'
