The Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) included New Year's celebrations in its Friday Sermon.

"LET US AVOID WRONG ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIORS"

The following statements were also included in the sermon:

“Let us avoid wrong attitudes and behaviors such as New Year's entertainment, Santa Claus figures and costumes, and Christmas tree decorations, which have no place in our religion and culture. Let us not waste our health, time, and earnings on forbidden things (haram) such as alcohol, which is the mother of all evils, gambling, which ruins households, and games of chance and lotteries, which consume hopes.”

Sharing on his X account, Konak reacted to the Diyanet and the President of Religious Affairs Ali Erbaş.

Referring to Ali Erbaş as “the person occupying the seat of the Diyanet founded by Atatürk,” Konak stated, “Practicing a religion that is offered to the service of humanity for free in exchange for a salary, and being able to stomach receiving a salary from the taxes of those working in the entertainment and tourism sectors, only suits people like you who live in a merchant sultanate. I am having a drink for you as well this evening to contribute to your salary and allowances. Please accept it…”
