What are the symptoms of high blood pressure? Treatment methods

WHAT IS HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE?

High blood pressure is when the blood pressure within the arteries rises above normal levels. The heart pumps blood to the body and applies a certain amount of pressure while doing so. The moment blood pressure is at its highest is when the heart sends blood to the aorta. As arteries become thinner, blood pressure drops. The pressure in the veins is lower than in the arteries. This pressure difference is necessary for blood to circulate through the body in a healthy manner. When blood pressure is mentioned, it refers to the pressure in the arteries, not the veins.

Blood circulating within the vessels carries oxygen, nutrients, and substances necessary for the body to the cells, while removing carbon dioxide and waste products from the cells. A certain amount of pressure is needed for blood to circulate through the body without issues. Without sufficient pressure, blood cannot move, which leads to the end of life. In other words, without blood pressure, there is no life.

What are the symptoms of high blood pressure (hypertension)?

Unless blood pressure rises above 180/110 mmHg, it may not show any symptoms. However, it damages the body when it is consistently high. The most common symptoms of high blood pressure are:

Frequent urination, especially waking up at night to urinate

Blurred or double vision

Swelling in the legs

Shortness of breath

Weakness, fatigue, lack of motivation

Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)

Nosebleeds

Irregular heartbeat and chest pain

Dizziness and headaches

How is high blood pressure treated?

For the treatment of high blood pressure patients, it is primarily requested that patients make changes to their lifestyle.

If a blood pressure patient is above their ideal weight, it is recommended that they follow a sufficient and balanced diet program to return to their ideal weight. Being overweight is among the most important causes of hypertension.

For this reason, there are many patients who opt for obesity surgery. Furthermore, salt consumption is restricted in hypertension patients, and the consumption of fruits and vegetables is increased.

Foods with a high saturated fat content, such as margarine, butter, and tail fat, should be removed from the diet plan. Alcohol and cigarette use must be stopped. Regular exercise for blood pressure patients helps keep blood pressure under control.

Drug therapy is applied to patients who cannot adapt to lifestyle changes or whose blood pressure does not drop despite these changes.

Since hypertension is a chronic condition, it requires periodic doctor check-ups throughout life. The medications recommended by the doctor should be used regularly, and no changes should be made to the medication dosage without the doctor's approval.
